Dussehra will be celebrated on 2 October 2025, which is considered the festival of victory of truth over untruth. According to religious beliefs, Lord Shri Ram killed Lankapati Ravana on this day. Ravana is called the villain of the Ramayana, which is considered a symbol of iniquity and injustice. However, Ravana was a scholar who had knowledge of the four Vedas and six scriptures. Ravana is burnt across the country on the day of Vijayadashami. But there are some places in India where Ravana is not burnt on Dussehra, but Ravana is worshiped, then mourning is celebrated somewhere. Where is Ravana worshiped?
There are many places in India where Ravana is worshiped, including Ravana Temple, Bisarkh (Uttar Pradesh), Dashanan Temple, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), Ravanagram (Madhya Pradesh) and Mandore (Rajasthan). In these temples, Ravana is worshiped as a scholar, Shiva devotee and sometimes as a son-in-law, not as a demon. Also, Ravana is not burnt in these places.
Dashanan Temple, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh:- This temple opens only once a year on Dussehra, when the special adornment and aarti of the idol of Ravana is. Ravana’s birthday is celebrated here on the day of Dussehra.
Bisarkh, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh:- This place is considered to be the birthplace of Ravana and the Ravana Janmabhoomi temple is located here. In this temple, Dussehra is worshiped in honor.
Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh:- Here Ravana is considered as son -in -law because Mandodari belonged to it here. Here a huge idol named Rundi of Ravana is worshiped.
Ravanagram, Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh:- Ravana’s wife Mandodari was born in this village, so the people here consider Ravana as their son -in -law. There is a 10 feet lying statue of Ravana, which people worship on Dussehra.
Mandore, Jodhpur, Rajasthan:- There is a temple of Ravana and Mandodari in the foothills of Mehrangarh Fort. It is said that Ravana and Mandodari were married here. In this temple, Ravana is worshiped as a scholar.
Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh:- A 30 feet tall statue of Ravana is installed in this city and it is believed that Ravana himself established the Shivling here.
Baijnath, Himachal Pradesh:- Ravana did penance of Lord Shiva in Baijnath, so the residents of this place consider Ravana as an exclusive devotee and scholar of Lord Shiva. Ravana is not burnt here.
Baragaon, Uttar Pradesh:- People here consider Ravana as their ancestor and worship him on Dussehra with law and order.
Kolar, Mandaya (Karnataka) and Malvali:- In many places in Karnataka, Ravana is worshiped as a great Shiva devotee and is not burnt.
Gadchiroli, Maharashtra:- Here the people of the Gond tribe consider themselves descendants of Ravana and worship Ravana.
