Teenage phenom Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has a chance to enhance his First-Class credentials when his side East Zone take on the severely inexperienced North East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, starting at the Centre of Excellence shortly.
The 15-year-old T20 sensation has played 12 innings for Bihar over eight First-Class games. In these games he had top-scored with 93 and has an average of 17+, which pales in comparison to his T20 stats.
The game will also see seasoned stars like Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Shami, and Abhimanyu Easwaran take the field.
For Sooryavanshi, an untested commodity in the red-ball arena, the Duleep Trophy game against North East Zone is an opportunity to get his eye in for some First-Class cricket before he faces the more established teams like Central or South Zone at the same venue from August 30. The selectors have also raised the stakes by entrusting the young Sooryavanshi with vice-captaincy of the team.
