DU Students To Get 50% Discount On Train Rides? Check Details

Delhi Metro Update: The Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, on Tuesday demanded to give a 50 per cent concession in metro fare to all students of Delhi University. It stated that the students are already dealing with the rising college fees, adding that a concession in metro fare will provide great relief. The Delhi unit of ASAP has also submitted a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, and DMRC regarding this demand.

The student wing leaders stated that ASAP will start a 16-day campaign in various colleges, including the North and South Campuses of Delhi University, from Wednesday to seek support from the students. Eshna Gupta, one of the student leaders, stated that a student spends 60 to 100 rupees per day, i.e. 1,800 to 3,000 rupees per month, on metro rides. She further stated that the students can invest the amount in skill development, which will help them in the future.

Apart from this, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to ramp up security checks ahead of Independence Day (August 15). Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, especially during peak hours, as enhanced security protocols are expected to cause delays. A senior DMRC official confirmed the development to Indianexpress.com, stating, “Security checks have been intensified at major stations and will be extended to other stations soon.”
