Drunken man arrested for harassing Muslim couple in Greater Noida

Greater Noida:  A late-night dispute in Greater Noida’s bustling Gaur City 2 escalated into a heated confrontation captured on video, leading to the swift arrest of a man accused of harassing a Muslim couple. The incident, which unfolded late Thursday night, gained widespread attention after the video began circulating on social media on Saturday.

The altercation took place at the White Orchid market in Gaur City 2. Police have identified the arrested suspect as Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Ram Shyam Enclave in Chipiyana Buzurg.

According to police reports, the dispute originated when Mukesh Kumar objected to Imran (identified by a single name) and his wife standing near his car. This initial objection quickly spiralled into a verbal spat, as detailed by Bisrakh police station’s Station House Officer (SHO) KG Sharma. “A dispute arose when the suspect objected to them standing near his car. Based on the complaint submitted by the informant Imran, a case was registered at the police station,” Sharma stated.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pawan Kumar confirmed that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. “He was drinking at the spot, and there was an argument over something. We arrested this person from the spot and registered a case against him under NCR (non-cognizable report),” ACP Kumar added.

The viral video depicts Mukesh Kumar surrounded by a group of people, engaged in a fervent exchange. In the footage, bystanders can be heard questioning his aggressive behaviour, with some alleging that he was not only drinking but also bothering individuals on account of their religion. Voices in the video are heard challenging him with statements like, “You have no right to ask questions,” while another person specifically accuses him of harassing people after consuming alcohol.

Following the complaint and the evidence from the scene, police took immediate action. Mukesh Kumar has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. These include Section 170, which pertains to arrest to prevent the commission of a cognizable offence; Section 126, relating to security for keeping the peace in other cases; and Section 135, which deals with an inquiry into the truth of information. Further legal proceedings in the case are currently underway.
