Shreyas Iyer, India’s next ODI captain?

Shreyas Iyer could be named India’s next ODI captain, taking over from Rohit Sharma. The selectors had named Shubman Gill white-ball vice-captain last year. Gill has taken over as Test captain since, and to ensure he isn’t overburdened, Shreyas is likely to be handed the ODI captaincy.

Agarkar to continue as chief selector

The BCCI will extend Ajit Agarkar’s contract as the chairman of selectors. Since taking over the position in July 2023, Agarkar has done the job well. During his tenure, India has won 2 ICC trophies and made the final in the other one. Agarkar will hold the post until June 2026.

BCCI upset over selections

BCCI has written to state associations after players like KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj weren’t included in the South Zone team for the Duleep Trophy. Last year, BCCI had made it mandatory for centrally contracted players to feature in domestic tournaments when available.

Before leaving for the Down Under tour, he wants to play against Australia A in Kanpur from September 30 to October 5.

BCCI’s new fitness test
