Drive Green: Electric SUVs under Rs 20 Lakh

JSW MG has managed to hit the competition out of the park with the Windsor EV. The crossover continued to be India’s number one EV for the seventh consecutive month.

This is most impressive as the EV was launched in September 2024. MG Motor has decided to step up the ante by now launching the Windsor EV Pro, which is equipped with a larger battery and Level 2 ADAS safety feature. We take a look at its competition and find out what electric SUVs are available within Rs 20 lakh.

The Nexon is available in two battery options – 30 kWh and 45 kWh. The former churns out 127.3 bhp and 142 bhp with identical torque of 215 Nm. The medium range model does 0 – 100 kmph in 9.2 seconds, and the top trim manages in 9 seconds. With three drive modes – Eco, City and Sport and four regeneration levels, Tata claims that the real-world figures for the medium-range Nexon EV and the 45 model are 201 to 230 km and 350 to 375 km respectively. The Nexon EV MR range starts at Rs 12.49 lakh while the long range is Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Mahindra XUV 400

After the launch of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, many might have forgotten that Mahindra’s most affordable EV, the XUV 400. The EV is still very much available in the market and is available in two trims – EC Pro and EL Pro. The former variant is powered by a 34.5 kWh battery with an output of 148 bhp and 310 Nm. Based on MIDC, it has a range of 359 km. The EL Pro comes in two battery options – 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh, with 359 km and 456 km according to MIDC. The output of both batteries remains the same. The price range for the XUV 400 is Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 17.69 lakh, ex-showroom.

Tata Curvv EV Tata Curvv EV Dark Edition

The Curvv is the only EV coupe SUV in this list and manages to make quite a statement with its design. The Curvv EV is available in two battery packs – 45 kWh and 55 kWh. The entry-level version churns out 147 bhp and 215 Nm of torque. It does 0 – 100 kmph in 9 seconds. This model has a claimed driving range of 430 km. The top model gets a 55 kWh battery, produces 165 bhp and 215 Nm with a claimed range of 502 km. The Curvv 45 lineup starts from Rs 17.49 lakh while the top 55 kWh version costs Rs 22.24 lakh, ex-showroom.

The best-selling mid-size SUV, the Hyundai Creta, is now available in electric. It has two variants – 42 kWh standard and 51.4 kWh long range. The former version has a power output of 133 bhp and a claimed range of 390 km. The 51.4 kWh version churns out 169 bhp and a claimed driving range of 473 km. According to Hyundai, the Creta Electric does 0 – 100 kmph in 7.9 seconds. The Creta Electric 42 kWh version starts from Rs 17.99 lakh, while the 51.4 kWh lineup is from Rs 21.50 lakh to Rs 24.38 lakh, ex-showroom.

Mahindra BE 6 Mahindra BE 6e

The BE 6 is the second-born electric vehicle in this list after the Curvv EV. The futuristic EV SUV offers the biggest battery options – the 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The former is available in five variants, with one offering the 79 kWh battery. The trims are broadly divided into three versions – Pack One, Pack Two and Pack Three, with only the last version offering the 79 kWh battery. The 59 kWh model produces an impressive 228 bhp and a range of 557 km based on MIDC P1 + P2. The Pack Three has an output of 281 bhp and a range of 683 km based on MIDC P1 + P2. The price of the BE 6 starts from Rs 19.96 lakh to Rs 27.65 lakh, ex-showroom.
