New Delhi: Nitish Rana confronted the fourth umpire after Tristan Stubbs was denied a glove change request in the crucial moment of the IPL 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 11.
Stubbs tried to change his gloves midway through an over, pointing out that the warm conditions in Chennai had left his hands wet, making it uncomfortable to continue in the run-chase. However, the on-field umpire did not allow the change due to the rules around delays in the match.

With DC still in the match, Stubbs struggled to get his momentum back and was dismissed by Jamie Overton in the penultimate over. As the South African walked back, he exchanged a few words with the umpire before smashing his helmet in frustration inside the dressing room.
After his dismissal, Nitish Rana and head coach Hemang Badani were seen in conversation with the fourth umpire, seeking clarity on the decision. Rana was also involved in a heated exchange with the umpire as well.
According to the IPL playing conditions rules, a batter is expected to be ready when the bowler is set to deliver, and any delay can result in a penalty. There is no specific rule that allows a batter to change his equipment in the middle of an over if it delays play.
