A thrilling hat-trick by Rahul Chaudhary couldn’t save the New Delhi Tigers as the South Delhi Superstarz chased a huge target of 197 runs successfully, claiming victory by three wickets with one ball remaining in the current Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025.
Tigers Set Healthy Total Despite Initial Pressure
Having been asked to bat first, the New Delhi Tigers set up a fighting 196/9 on the board. Opener Dhruv Kaushik pinned the innings together with a dominating 65 off 41 balls, while Parth Bali made 26 from 26 deliveries. The middle order of the Tigers continued the pace before Vaibhav Rawal contributed 22 off 17 balls.
The innings’ saw Deepak Punia, take responsiblity in the death overs with a whirlwind 54 in 24 deliveries, blasting two huge sixes in the last over to drive his team to nearly the 200-mark. For the Superstarz, Aman Bharti was the most successful bowler, claiming 3/31 in four overs. Himanshu Chauhan and Sumit Kumar Beniwal each took one wicket, but both leaked runs in the later stages.
Superstarz Lose Early Wicket but Middle Order Fires
The chase didn’t start smoothly for South Delhi Superstarz as opener Kunwar Bidhuri departed early for just 6 runs, leaving the side under pressure. However, the middle order rose to the occasion.
Anmol Sharma was the top performer with a stylish 79 off 52 balls, laced with seven boundaries and four massive sixes. His cool attitude in the middle overs saw the needed run rate never get out of hand. Pacy Tejasvi Dahiya scored 72 off just 38 deliveries, with three fours and five sixes, to leave the Superstarz in control.
Rahul Chaudhary’s Hat-Trick Puts Up Nail-Biting Finish
Requiring 12 runs off the last over, the Superstarz seemed set for an easy victory. Rahul Chaudhary, however, flipped the game on its head as he took three wickets in three deliveries dismissing Anmol Sharma, Sumit Mathur, and Gulzar Sandhu to record a stunning hat-trick.
But a big boundary that went for four kept Superstarz in the game, with seven runs from the winning post with three balls still to be bowled. Abhishek Khandelwal then showed some nerves of steel, hitting a six off the second last ball to win the match in style.
Bowling Highlights
For the Tigers, Prince Yadav picked 3/41 off four overs, and Rahul Chaudhary’s last-over thriller took his tally to 3/48. But at by the end, the Superstarz’ pulled off the chase and clinched their first win of the season.
