It was launched under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative in 2022 and has since grown to become a widely popular movement. This year, the campaign was announced on August 2 and will continue till August 15.
To hoist the flag, citizens must know the dos and don’ts, which are enshrined in the Flag Code of India 2002.
Dos for hoisting the national flag
-The tricolour should occupy the position of honour and should be distinctly placed.
-The saffron band should be at the top when hoisting horizontally.
-While vertically, the saffron band should be at the left

-The flag should have a dimensional proportion of 3:2 for length to width, irrespective of size.
-The flag should be clean, undamaged and free from discolouration.
-The flag can be made of cotton, polyester, wool, or silk khadi bunting, as per the Flag Code.
-As per the amended Flag Code of 2002, the flag can be flown on all days by individuals, private organisations and educational institutions.
-While hoisting it at night, the area should be well-lit and prominently displayed.
-A damaged flag should be disposed of by burning privately or any other manner that does not diminish its dignity.

Don’t for hoisting the national flag
-The flag must not be overshadowed by any other flags.
-The flag must not be hoisted at smaller height compared to other flags.
-The flag must not touch the ground.
-The flag must not be hoisted upside down.
-The flag should not be used to cover buildings, vehicles or any other object except bodies in state and military funerals.
-The flag must not be used for commercial purposes, for example, napkins. However, a paper flag can be used for national events.
-The flag must not have anything writer or printed.
-The flag must not be used as clothing or uniform, or as any accessory that is worn below the waist.
-The flag must not be intentionally burned or mutilated.
