Keerthy Suresh travelled all the way to the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her latest Tamil film, “Dorothy”. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film had Keerthy as its main celebrity face, with relatively lesser-known Tamil actors playing the male leads.
“Dorothy” was screened at the Toronto festival and was released in theatres this Friday. However, the film has been facing heavy trolling following its theatrical release.
The film reportedly begins as a rural drama before taking a different turn in the second half with a queer theme. While some sections have objected to the LGBTQ theme, much of the online criticism appears to be directed at the film’s climax and its message.
The ending has reportedly irked some sections of the audience in Tamil Nadu, while the film has also received praise from certain sections, including some critics. As a result, “Dorothy” appears to have divided audiences, with strong reactions on both sides.
Although Keerthy Suresh plays the central role, it is the film’s theme and treatment, particularly in the second half and climax, that are currently drawing the most attention and trolling.
