In today’s time, cases of fatty liver are increasing significantly. Bad eating habits are a major reason for this. Many people consider fatty liver to be a common problem and there are some myths regarding it. about these myths Dr. Deepak Suman, Senior Resident at Safdarjung Hospital Has told.
Myth 1: Only drinkers get fatty liver
Dr. Suman explains that many people believe that fatty liver is caused only by drinking alcohol, but now it is not so. Now even if someone does not drink alcohol, he is still getting fatty liver. This is called non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD). Poor eating habits, insulin resistance and increasing obesity are also the causes of fatty liver.
Myth 2: Only obese people have fatty liver
Many people believe that fatty liver disease occurs only in obese people, but now fatty liver is found in many lean people also, which is called Lean NAFLD. Even if you look thin from outside, the visceral fat accumulated inside the body can also cause this disease.
Myth 3: If liver blood test is normal then there is no need to worry.
People get SGPT test done to test liver. If the report of this test is fine then people think that the liver is fine, but this is not necessary. Many times, liver enzymes (ALT, AST) remain normal in the initial stage, but fat starts accumulating in the liver. Therefore, it is not right to depend only on blood test.
Myth 4: Fatty liver is not dangerous, it always gets cured
Dr. Suman says that if fatty liver is grade 1 then it can be controlled in the initial stage, but if ignored for a long time, it increases. As the grade increases, it can turn into fibrosis and cirrhosis, which is quite dangerous.
