‘Don’t See Happy Future For Indians In West’: Indian-Canadian Plans To Move Back To India

Unlike many Indians who are trying their best to move out of the country- there is one Indian-Canadian who is instead looking for a way in.

An Indian-Canadian living in Canada for nearly a decade, finally visited the country in 2021. What followed was a rush of childhood memories and nostalgia, which resulted in 9 other India visits within just half a decade alone. Sharing about his feelings on Reddit, the man wrote how he now wants to come back to India and wants to set up a ‘small business’– as living in India feels like home. As per the man’s Reddit post, he is a 25-year-old man who allegedly grew up in Gurugram and lived in the country for 11 years, before leaving for Canada.

The man is now facing a dilemma over whether he should shift or not. His parents hardly have plans to come back as they allegedly already own property in Canada- however, the young Indian-Canadian is seemingly done with living in the West. The Redditor also claimed that he personally is not seeing a ‘happy future’ for ‘Indians in general in the West’. He is also aware of India’s flaws, but then ‘other countries’ too have ‘their own issue’- as per the man’s beliefs.

The man’s post went viral in an instant, which he ended by asking for suggestions from the netizens. Most advised him to maintain his Canadian citizenship while also trying Indian life for a few years- so that he can decide what he wants in the end.

“Moving back to India,” the post read.

“I’m 25M, a Canadian citizen and an Indian OCI. Single. I grew up in Gurgaon, spent 11 years of my life there. I’m pretty unhappy with my life in Canada, we have a house, and I work a meh tech job but I do not feel fulfilled. I have visited India around 10 times since 2021 after not visiting for a decade. When I returned for the first time, it felt like I had gone back in time in a good way. All my memories of childhood came flooding back. Majority of my family also resides in India including my sister,” the post read.

“I have been pushing my parents to buy a house in India but they’re not buying into the idea. Instead, I’m thinking of buying a relatively cheap property for myself. I don’t know what I will do, but I definitely want to return,” the Redditor continued.

“India has its flaws, I get it, but so do these western countries. I personally do not see a happy future for Indians in general in the west. I want to start a small business in India until I get my inheritance and then eventually live off that. Any opinions?” the post concluded.

“You are a Canadian citizen. If sh*t hits the fan in India, you can always go back to Canada anytime. Give yourself 3-5 years time in India and see. During this time, just don’t let this Plan B come to your mind… frequently. And don’t travel West,” a user advised.

“If you think it will make you happy. Do it. Don’t overthink. Taking other’s opinions will confuse you more. Good luck,” added a second person. “Do what your heart says. Do what makes you happy. You are young – you can take risks,” commented a third person.

“This is honestly heartbreaking, I plan to move abroad, in fact I posted a question the day before asking if it’s a fruitful experience. However, reading this post, I’m kinda sad and confused. Anyway I hope you’re OK,” commented a fourth user.
