Former England skipper Michael Vaughan took a sly jab at Team India, suggesting that the Ashes in Australia holds greater significance than an India-Australia Test series.
The 2025-26 Ashes is scheduled to kick off in Perth on November 21. Although Australia has maintained strong dominance over England in home Tests in recent years, anticipation for the upcoming Ashes remains immense.
At the same time, India and Australia have produced several fiercely contested Test series on Australian soil. Weighing in on the debate over which series is bigger, Vaughan shared his opinion on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“No question the India v Aussie series of late down under have been more competitive .. but don’t tell they are bigger than an Ashes .. the build up down in Oz for this Ashes is absolutely huge .. you don’t that for an IND v Oz series .”
India secured consecutive Test series victories in Australia during the 2018/19 and 2020/21 tours, both by 2-1 margins. In their most recent Test series down under last year, they fought hard but eventually lost 1-3.
In contrast, England have consistently struggled to compete against Australia in away Ashes series, losing the last three and winning only two of the 15 matches played. Their last Ashes triumph in Australia came in the 2010/11 series, which they won 3-1.
Michael Vaughan Predicts Outcome Of Ashes 2025/26 Series
shared his prediction for the highly anticipated 2025/26 Ashes series, forecasting a 3-1 victory for Australia. Although he remains a strong supporter of England’s aggressive style under Ben Stokes, the former captain believes the hosts will ultimately come out on top.
“Prediction… Australia, just by 3-1,” said Vaughan (via News18).
He further suggested that England would likely be content with a 2-2 draw, considering their historical difficulties playing in Australian conditions.
