‘Don’t Mind Coming From Scratch’: Prithvi Shaw Ready To Let Go Of Past, Eyes Fresh Start After Buchi Babu Ton

Prithvi Shaw marked his move to Maharashtra with a blistering century in the Buchi Babu Trophy match against Chhattisgarh. Shaw put up a lone fight with the bat for his new team and scored 111 off the 217 the team could manage in response to Chhattisgarh’s 242. Shaw, once compared to the great Sachin Tendulkar, couldn’t handle the spotlight and fell prey to indiscipline and poor fitness.

He lost his place in Team India, mainly due to technical issues in batting, but with age on his side, he was expected to bounce back strong. But Shaw’s career nosedived with time, with him even failing to grab IPL contracts.

Prithvi Shaw Eyes New Beginning

Shaw, however, is keen to let go of the past and start from scratch, and the century in Buchi Babu is just what the doctor ordered for him.

“I don’t mind coming from scratch again because I’ve seen many ups and downs in my life … I’m kind of a very confident guy, confident in myself, my work ethics. I feel, I hope that this season will go really well for me as well as for my team,” said Shaw after close of day’s play.

Shaw was asked about changes he adopted that helped him find his form back to which the batter said he didn’t change anything and just went back to basics, doing the stuff he used to do during his early days.

“I don’t want to change anything. I just went back to basics, doing things that I used to do in Under-19 days, which got me to the Indian team, just doing all the stuff back again, you know,” explained Shaw. “Practicing more, gym, running. It’s small things, obviously, it’s not that big because I’ve been doing these things since the age of 12 and 13.”

Social Media Is Quite Bad

Shaw further said he tried staying away from social media and all kinds of distractions, and it helped him focus more on his game.

“Just trying to be myself and not really trying to be on social media or anything and those kinds of distractions. Nowadays social media, it’s quite bad. It’s kind of peaceful when I’m not using it,” explained Shaw, who has found himself on the wrong end of criticism in the past.

Family Support Enough; Shaw Doesn’t Need Sympathies

Shaw also revealed that he didn’t get any words of praise from former cricketers, saying that this was not something he was thinking about at this stage of his career.

“I mean, it’s fine. I mean, I don’t want anyone’s sympathy. It’s okay. I’ve seen this before as well. I’ve got my family’s support. And my friends who were there with me when I was not really well mentally as well. So, it’s okay,” concluded the batter, who will be hoping this is just step one of the rest of his career.
