Don’t let Holi ruin your phone: 5 easy tips to prevent water damage

New Delhi: Holi brings colour, music and celebration to the streets. However, smart phones can easily become a costly error at the festival. It is water splashing, coloured powdering and wet hands that make the ideal situation to damage.

All these are centres that record an increase of water-damaged devices in the year after Holi. A lot of them would be prevented through mere precautions. You can have a fair share of the celebrations without having to worry about paying the cost of repairs in future.

Only waterproof pouch, not just a case

An ordinary silicone cover would not suffice in Holi. Coloured water easily leaks in charging ports and speakers. A pouch made of waterproof material is more protective. It also prevents moisture, and yet, you can use the touchscreen to make calls and take photos.

A pouch is a better option than simple cases in case you anticipate being in the middle of water fights.

Leave wired charging during the day.

Damp phones cause corrosion of the port when they are charged. Even waterproof products can be exposed to water when it is stored inside a product.

Wait until the phone is completely dry before using the plug. In case you have wireless charging at home, use it too to not touch the charging port.

Disability sensitive screen features

Ghost touches can be caused by water on the screen. Such features as Tap to Wake or gestures can start applications or cause accidental calls.

It is possible to keep them out of commission on a day-to-day basis.

Hold on to a microfibre cloth

Do not use tissues or paper towels. When there are gritty particles of colour, they will be able to scratch the screen.

A microfibre cloth should be clean, and preferably you can wipe your device using this.

Consider leaving it behind

If you are planning a full-scale colour battle, the safest phone is the one left at home. Carry a basic backup device if you need to stay reachable.

Holi may last just a day. Repair invoices may take a lot longer. With a few easy steps, you will be sure that in the end, all you will bring back home after the festival is pleasant memories, rather than a broken phone.
