There are less than two weeks left for the T20 World Cup 2026, but before that, Sanju Samson’s form has become a cause of trouble for Team India. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman has failed in all three matches of the T20 series against New Zealand. Team India won all these three matches but Samson’s inability to walk is now becoming a cause of concern. But why is Samson facing failures? What is the reason why he is failing to score runs? Is he ‘copying’ Abhishek Sharma? This is what former Team India captain Ajinkya Rahane believes.

On Sunday, January 25, in the third match of the T20 series, Sanju Samson was out without opening the account on the very first ball. He had failed miserably in the last two matches too and his scores were 10 and 6 runs. In this way, in the 3 matches of the series, he could score only 16 runs playing 13 balls. Overall, he has failed in what was expected from him and hence questions are being raised about him. Amidst Samson’s criticism, Rahane has said a very important thing.

‘Samson, don’t copy Abhishek’

When Samson was discussed in a Cricbuzz show after the third T20 match, Rahane told where the Indian opener was making mistakes. Rahane believes that Samson is trying to play big shots from the first ball by copying his fellow opener Abhishek, which is causing him losses. Rahane said, “Sometimes it happens that from the other side there is a batsman like Abhishek Sharma who is scoring runs fast. Samson will also be under pressure regarding this and then he will want to match Abhishek Sharma. The most important thing for Sanju is that he sticks to his game and backs himself completely.”

Message given to team management also

This performance of Samson has come at a time when all the other batsmen are performing brilliantly in this series, especially Ishan Kishan has scored a lot of runs as soon as he returned to the team. In the second match, Ishaan scored 76 runs in just 32 balls, while in the third match also he scored 28 runs in 13 balls. Rahane believes that in this situation the team management should also talk to Samson and reassure him. According to the former captain, “The team generally looks at the player who is in rhythm and is performing well. So there is a need to talk to Sanju Samson. Give him freedom. He is a quality player and a match winner.”
