The Supreme Court has allowed release of only green crackers in Delhi-NCR.
Green Crackers: Even before Diwali, the Supreme Court has given a big order on firecrackers for Delhi-NCR. Only green crackers can be burnt here which are certified by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI). Permission to burst firecrackers is only from 18 to 21 October. While giving this order, Chief Justice BR Gavai said, firecrackers are smuggled in Delhi-NCR, which cause more harm than green firecrackers.
Now the question is, what are green crackers, what is the difference between normal and green crackers, how to identify green crackers and why are they considered safe?
What are green crackers?
Generally normal firecrackers produce more smoke and more noise along with brighter light. This is because chemicals like sulphur, nitrate, aluminum powder and barium are used in them. They also release such harmful gases and particles, which rapidly increase air and noise pollution. They also harm health in many ways. The sudden increase in pollution after Diwali is a proof of this.

Normal firecrackers produce more light, noise and smoke.
Every year during Diwali, increased poison in the air increases tension. Green crackers were introduced as an alternative to this. These make less noise than normal firecrackers. Releases less smoke. The risk of pollution is also reduced to a great extent.Green crackers have been prepared by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research- National Environmental Engineering Research Institute. It has been prepared in such a way that it is safe for the environment to a great extent.

Don’t be fooled…Identify green crackers like this
Many times even normal firecrackers are sold in the market at a higher price in the name of green firecrackers, but it can be easily identified by keeping a few things in mind.
- Green crackers have the logo of CSIR-NEERI, the institute that produces them. While buying green crackers, also look for the eco-friendly label on them.
- There is a unique QR code on every cracker packet. By scanning the QR with mobile camera, complete information about green crackers is available.
- The information scanned from the QR code contains many important information including the name of the manufacturer, license number, type of firecracker which proves that it is a green firecracker.
- If information related to green crackers is not found on scanning the QR code, then it means that it is not a real green cracker.
- Green firecracker produces less smoke and less noise as compared to normal firecracker.
- Burning genuine green crackers neither emits pungent smell nor irritates the eyes. Whereas normal firecrackers immediately release suffocating smoke.
If we keep these things in mind, we can prevent fraud in the sale of green crackers.
