US President Donald Trump has reposted a Times Now news clip on his social media platform Truth Social, drawing attention to his remarks about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made during a phone call to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor at a recent US Embassy event in New Delhi.
The clip, originally aired by Times Now, featured coverage of Trump’s surprise phone call during the “Freedom at 250” celebration hosted by the US Embassy in the national capital. The event marked the run-up to the 250th anniversary of American independence and was attended by senior Indian and American officials.
Trump’s post on Truth Social generated buzz online, with the clip highlighting his warm remarks about India and the bilateral relationship.
Speaking on Times Now, Managing Editor Zakka Jacob said the call took place during the embassy event attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and around 1,500 guests.
“This was from the evening of the event called Freedom at 250. I was there at that event, Marco Rubio, the visiting secretary of state, who was the guest of honour. India’s external affairs minister, Dr. Jaishankar, was also there at that event. He was the chief guest,” Jacob said.
According to Jacob, the call came shortly after a performance by music composer A R Rahman.
“It was right after Mr. Rehman’s performance that this phone call came in. The ambassador walked back up to stage. He took out his phone. He said, Mr. President, and then Donald Trump spoke,” he recalled.
The call drew attention at the time because Trump used the opportunity to praise both India and Prime Minister Modi. Referring to the conversation, Jacob said Trump was “very effusive in his praise for Prime Minister Modi” and highlighted the strength of India-US ties.
During the call, Trump reportedly said that he loves India and assured support for the country, remarks that became a key focus of Times Now’s coverage.
Jacob also highlighted that the repost demonstrated the reach of the network’s reporting.
“It is that clipping which the US president has now posted on this Truth Social just goes to show that even the world’s most powerful man watches his news on Times Now,” he said.
Trump’s repost also comes at a significant moment in India-US relations. Negotiators from both countries are currently engaged in discussions aimed at finalising a bilateral trade arrangement, while officials continue to work through issues related to tariffs, market access and regional security concerns.
