Donald Trump claimed that he stopped the India-Pakistan war by threatening 200% tariffs and saved millions of lives. He also mentioned the downing of 11 jets. India has always rejected third party arbitration.
Former US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he had saved the lives of millions of people during the conflict between India and Pakistan in 2025. Trump said that he had threatened to impose ‘200 percent tariffs’, after which both the countries stopped fighting because ‘there is no such thing as money’. Speaking at his ‘Board of Peace’, Trump also increased the number of jets downed. Earlier he used to claim that 8 jets were shot down, but now he has given this number as 11.
‘I called both of them’
Trump again reiterated that he had called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the conflict, while India has always rejected any third party mediation. Trump said, “The Pakistani PM had said in front of our Chief of Staff that President Trump saved the lives of 25 million people by stopping the war between India and us… That war was raging. Planes were being shot down. I got both of them on the phone, I knew them a little. I knew Prime Minister Modi very well… I called them and said, listen, if you guys don’t resolve this, I will not make a trade deal with both of you.”
Trump further said, “I said, if you fight, I will put 200 percent tariffs on both of your countries. Both wanted to fight. But when it came to money, there is no such thing as money. When it came to losing a lot of money, he said, I guess we don’t want to fight… 11 jets were shot down. Very expensive jets.”
Trump was referring to the conflict that occurred after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025. 26 people were killed in this attack. In response to the attack, India launched precise strikes on terrorist targets in Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Pakistani PM praised Trump
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also praised Trump for mediating this conflict. He described Trump as an ‘angel of peace’ and ‘savior of the people of South Asia’. Shehbaz Sharif said, “Your timely and very effective intervention for ceasefire between India and Pakistan saved millions of lives. You have truly proved yourself to be an ambassador of peace and I want to say that you are truly the savior of the people of South Asia.”
India denied the role of third party
India has always denied Trump’s claims. India says the ceasefire was achieved bilaterally through Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs), without the involvement of any third party. India has reiterated its longstanding position that all issues with Pakistan, including Jammu and Kashmir, have to be resolved bilaterally between the two countries. (ANI)
