The Don 3 dispute involving Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment has taken another turn. Ranveer’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, has approached the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) and submitted a plea challenging the producers’ reported Rs 45 crore claim against the actor. The development comes months after Ranveer’s reported exit from the Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani-backed project, which allegedly caused a significant financial setback. With the matter still unresolved, IMPPA is now expected to examine the documents and evidence submitted by Ranveer’s father before deciding its next step. The latest move could pave the way for further discussions between both sides.
Ranveer Singh’s father submits plea against Rs 45 crore claim
As per India Today, Ranveer Singh’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, met the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) on Tuesday and submitted a plea against Excel Entertainment’s reported Rs 45 crore claim in the ongoing Don 3 dispute. According to reports, IMPPA’s legal team will examine the documents and evidence submitted before deciding on the next course of action.
IMPPA President Abhay Sinha confirmed the meeting and said it went smoothly. The association is expected to review the matter and work towards a resolution that is fair to both parties.
About Don 3 exit row
Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment officially announced Don 3 in August 2023, with Ranveer Singh taking over the iconic role previously portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan in the 2006 and 2011 films. The announcement featured a promo introducing Ranveer as the new Don.
However, after the release of his spy thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, Ranveer reportedly informed Excel Entertainment of his decision to exit . The development allegedly came just three weeks before a crew of more than 200 people was scheduled to travel overseas for the film’s first shooting schedule.
Following the reported exit, Farhan approached the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which first heard the producers’ side before seeking a response from Ranveer. After what the organisation described as a lack of cooperation from the actor’s side, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against him. The directive was withdrawn eight days later after other industry bodies reportedly urged FWICE to reconsider the decision, citing the employment opportunities associated with a major Ranveer Singh-led production.
The dispute subsequently reached the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA). Excel Entertainment reportedly submitted the Don 3 contract and promotional material featuring Ranveer, along with a message in which the actor had expressed his excitement about beginning work on the film. Ranveer has largely maintained silence on the controversy. Even after FWICE’s directive, his team indicated that the actor would not publicly explain his decision and would instead remain focused on his work. With Ranveer’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, now attending an IMPPA meeting and submitting his plea against the reported Rs 45 crore claim, the long-running Don 3 dispute has entered another crucial phase.
