Dominant Indian FTR750 retires from racing, marking the end of an era for the manufacturer

It’s the end of an era: the Indian Motorcycle FTR750 has ended its participation in flat track racing, as it becomes ineligible under new regulations that limit the American Flat Track Championship to production motorcycles.

 

The model, equipped with a 748cc DOHC V-twin engine, made its debut in 2017, marking the manufacturer’s return to competition. Since then, it has achieved seven consecutive SuperTwins titles and 101 victories in 135 races, making it the most dominant bike in the championship’s history. The current SuperTwins champion, Jared Mees, who has been part of the project since 2017, played a crucial role in the development of the FTR750.

Additionally, this program included support for private teams, with 45 riders having the opportunity to race the FTR750 over the years-many of whom are well-known names in U.S. Flat Track racing.

Gary Gray, Vice President Racing and Service at Indian Motorcycle, stated: ‘Since 1901, racing has been core to the Indian Motorcycle brand DNA. From our founders, Hendee and Hedstrom, competing in endurance races in the early 1900s, to the dominant Wrecking Crew of the late 1940s, Indian Motorcycle has been winning races. The FTR750 was the vehicle that reestablished Indian Motorcycle Racing and returned the brand to a place of competitive dominance’.

Mees commented: ‘I’ve been fortunate enough to be on this journey with Indian Motorcycle since day one. Racing the FTR750 has been an incredible experience, as I’ve never experienced a bike like the FTR750 in all my years competing. We’ve had immense success over the past eight years, and it’s been a true honor to be a part of the Indian Wrecking Crew’.
