Rapper Doja Cat has spoken candidly about her past struggles with alcohol and cocaine use, saying she is grateful that her difficulties with drugs are now behind her.
The 30-year-old artist discussed her experiences in a series of videos posted on TikTok, addressing what she described as personal issues and her journey towards healing.
Doja Cat said she had experienced problems with alcohol and acknowledged that she had struggled with cocaine use about eight years ago. She also spoke about the way alcohol, drugs, addiction, mental health and social media can interact, particularly when the internet becomes a source of validation for negative thoughts.
“A lot of people on the internet believe that I’m demonic. That I have demons, that I have evil in me,” she said, before discussing how alcohol and drugs can become intertwined with negative mental states and online influences.
The rapper clarified that while she had not considered herself to have had a serious drug problem, she had experienced difficulties with alcohol. “I’ve never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with,” she said. “I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems.”
She also acknowledged her past cocaine use, saying she believed it occurred around eight years ago and that she was now well past that period.
“I have struggled with cocaine, I think could have been like eight years ago, but I’m well past that, so thank God,” Doja Cat said.
She began her discussion by acknowledging that she felt fearful about speaking publicly about the subject, but said confronting difficult experiences was part of her healing process.
