Dodge bring back V8 for 2026 Durango across lineup

New Delhi: Dodge have announced that the upcoming 2026 Durango would feature V8 as standard, amking them a performance brand for Stellantis. The brand’s 5.7-litre V8 engine produces 360 horsepower which is 65 bhp more than the existing Pentastar V6 that its replacing.

This increases the price by $4,000 in the United States making the price go up to $44,490. Further, Dodge have upgraded the R/T’s powertrain as well giving it a 6.4-litre V8,  392. This one will produce 470 bhp and 644 Nm of torque. It makes 115 bhp more than the current engine. For the 2025 R/T, the pricing was $49,995 until the $1995 destination charge. 

Dodge have also detailed the 2026 SRT Helcat, which will be reworked Jailbreak variant. This will give more customization options and will even comes with six wheel choices, five interior colours and much more. It gets Dodge’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 that makes 710 bhp and 874 Nm. While the entry price for the Durango increases, the SRT Hellcat will be less expensive than before. 

CEO Matt McAlear noted that the abrupt change towards the internal combustion engine was due to the change in administration. Dodge now has much more freedom to return to ICE vehicles without any risk of severe penalties. However, McAlear said that while they hadn’t given up on the EVs since they had amazing performance and power.

With the shift in the policies, carmakers across the world have turned towards keeping the ICE versions rather than earlier stance of completely erasing them.
