The rumor claimed that the last date to file ITR, which was earlier extended from 31 July to 15 September, has now been extended to 30 September. However, the Income Tax Department has described this news as completely fake.

Fake letter went viral
Let us know that a fake letter went viral on social media, in which it is written that CBDT has extended the last date for filing ITR to be held till September 15. Keeping in view the time required for the preparation and rollout of the system of utilities, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the last date for filing returns.
15 days time has already been found
For this year, the Income Tax Department had extended the old last date of July 31 to 15 September 2025, so that people could get more time. But after this, the tax department is continuously sending reminder to file an ITR till the scheduled time.
