Kedarnath and Badrinath, Uttarakhand
Kedarnath and Badrinath Garhwal are the main pilgrimage centers in the Himalayas. However, during the monsoon season, the roads leading to these pilgrimage centers are highly sensitive to sudden floods and landslides. On 16 June 2013, there was heavy rainfall in many parts of Uttarakhand. Along with this, there were incidents of cloudburst, due to which the water level of rivers and canals suddenly increased. At that time, along with many tourists, the local people also lost their lives. Uttarakhand is a hilly area, so during the monsoon, incidents like floods and landslides continue here. In such a situation, if you are planning to visit Uttarakhand during the monsoon, then follow the instructions of the Meteorological Department continuously or plan to visit Uttarakhand only after the monsoon.

The Atal Tunnel and the road of Rohtang Pass are closed regularly due to the floods caused by landslides or ice melting. Let me tell you, in 2023, hundreds of tourists were trapped in Kullu and Manali due to the collapse of bridges due to heavy rains and collapse of roads.

Cherrapunji and Mousinram, Meghalaya
Both these villages are famous for the highest rainfall at the international level. India’s Economic Center, Mumbai, is almost stalled during every monsoon. The city is infamous for waterlogging roads, delays in railway services and drains jam. Andheri, Dadar, Kurla and Sion are some areas where there is heavy destruction in the monsoon. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a red warning for Mumbai during the monsoon’s extreme fortnight.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam
The monsoon flood in Assam has severely affected India’s most important wildlife century, Kaziranga. In 2023, the flood submerged more than 60 per cent of the garden, causing the animals to migrate and the tourism completely stopped.

Munnar and Wayanad, Kerala
Although Kerala is famous for its attractive backwater and greenery during the monsoon season, some hill districts like Munnar and Wayanad are landslide prone areas. In the last few years, some areas have recorded large scale landslide, road landslide and floods. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) often issues landslide warnings in these areas during heavy rains. Therefore, be updated before planning.

Spiti Valley is a rain shadow area, but can be dangerous via Manali to Kunjum Pass, especially during monsoon, landslides and sudden floods. Himachal Pradesh Tourism Board usually warns tourists against organizing road trips to Spiti during June to September.

Havelock Island (Swaraj Island), Andaman and Nicobar Islands
These islands are famous for spending holidays and snorkeling on the beach, but during the monsoon, strong winds, high waves and the sea are bumpy, so the water-plays become dangerous there. Ferry is often canceled on the island of Havelock, so it becomes difficult to travel from one island to another. The National Ocean Information Services Center (INCOIS) regularly issues high-C alerts during this period.

Darjeeling And Kalimpong, West Bengal

A beautiful hill station in North Bengal, Darjeeling, becomes quite insecure during the monsoon. The main road connecting Siliguri-Darjiling and Kalimpong, NH-10, is often closed due to landslides, especially around Teesta Bazaar and Melly. Passengers get stuck in hotels with limited food due to road jams.

In the monsoon, the Ganges river submerges Varanasi, Allahabad (Prayagraj) and parts of Ballia. Watering on the ghats, flooding of roads and slow pace of trains are seen in this season.
