2. Prepare the base
You can make a pot in two ways-
- Vertical pot: Keep the tire upright and place a sheet of wood, plywood or thick plastic at the bottom.
- Hanging pot: You can make it like a hanging basket by tying a strong chain or rope on three sides.
- Make 5-6 holes in the base for water drainage.
3. Paint the tire
Now apply primer, dry the tire and then paint it with acrylic, spray paint or oil based paint. Bright colors like yellow, blue, green or red are perfect for outdoor gardens. Making patterns or doodles makes the look more attractive.
4. Fill with soil and compost
Add a prepared potting mix consisting of 40% soil, 40% compost and 20% sand/cocopeat. The tire is deep, so it is best for larger plants, bushes and vines. If making a hanging planter, use a light mix.
5. Decorate by planting plants
Ferns, snake plants, money plants, balm leaves, pothos, herb plants or flowering plants easily grow in tire pots. If you wish, you can also install stones, conch shells or small LED lights on the edge, this makes the plants look unique, classy and aesthetic.
