Northern Railway Festival Train 2026: Northern Railway is getting ready for the festive travel rush by scheduling more than 6,200 special-train trips for Diwali and Chhath.
The planned services represent an increase of around 30% over the 4,666 trips operated during the previous festive season, giving passengers more options to travel to their hometowns.
42 Regularised Trains to Add 2,600 Trips
The festive travel programme will also include 42 trains that have recently been made regular. These services are expected to account for approximately 2,600 trips during the festive period, adding to the railway zone’s overall capacity to accommodate the increase in passenger demand.
What Are The Key Routes?
Several important routes have been included in the programme, such as Delhi-Patna, Anand Vihar-Patliputra, New Delhi-Howrah, Amritsar-Barauni and Chandigarh-Patna. These connections link major northern cities with destinations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, where passenger numbers typically rise during Diwali and Chhath.
Extra Counters and Security Measures at Stations
Railway authorities are also making arrangements to manage the crowds at stations. Additional ticket counters, more staff and enhanced security measures are planned to ensure smoother passenger movement during the festive rush.
Passengers Advised to Check Seat Availability
Passengers should check availability of seats before finalising travel plans, as special trains are likely to be booked up quickly. Passengers should check that the train number, date of travel, class of travel and departure station are correct when checking for availability on their preferred route.
