Mother Lakshmi became very sad due to this.
After this, Mother Lakshmi told this to Mother Parvati. Then the mother made her son Ganesh ji sit in the lap of Mother Lakshmi. Since then Lord Ganesha is considered the adopted son of Mother Lakshmi. Mother Lakshmi was very happy to find Lord Ganesha in her lap and blessed him that Bappa would also be worshiped along with him.

There is another reason for worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha together on Diwali. Mata Lakshmi is considered the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Whereas Lord Ganesha is worshiped as the god of wisdom and prudence.
