Diwali 2025 Holidays: Festive break from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, know when schools will open in your state.

Holidays for schools and colleges have been announced for Diwali 2025. Schools will remain closed for 15 days in Jammu and Kashmir, while there will be a festive break of 4 to 10 days in UP, Bihar, Maharashtra and Punjab. Know the complete holiday list of your state.

Diwali 2025 School Holidays in India: This year Diwali (Diwali 2025) will be celebrated on Monday, 20 October. Due to this festival of lights and happiness, the process of holidays has started in schools and colleges across the country. Usually, Diwali holidays start from Dhanteras (18 October) and continue till Bhai Dooj (23 October). During this period, major festivals like Chhoti Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj are celebrated. However, many states have extended the duration of holidays keeping in mind their local festivals and regional festivals. Know in which states for how many days schools and colleges will remain closed and when they will open.

Jammu and Kashmir: Longest holiday of 15 days

This time the festive happiness will be double for the students of Jammu and Kashmir. Schools will remain closed here from 19 October to 2 November 2025. This means that a total of 15 days long leave will be available, so that students can celebrate local festivals along with Diwali. Schools will open from 3 November 2025.

Punjab and Maharashtra: 4 days festive break

School holidays in Punjab will be from 19th to 22nd October and schools will open from 23rd October. At the same time, holidays in Maharashtra will be from 18th to 21st October and schools and colleges will open from 22nd October. Some colleges have extended it and declared a break till October 23, so that students can enjoy the entire festival. Such colleges will open from October 24.

Delhi and Uttar Pradesh: 4 day weekend break

Delhi schools will remain closed on October 20 (Diwali) and October 22 (Govardhan Puja) and will reopen from October 23. Students in Uttar Pradesh will get a slightly longer break (there will be holidays here from 20th to 23rd October. Also, this break will become even longer since it is October 19th (Sunday). Schools will open from October 24th.

West Bengal and Bihar: Series of festivals from Kali Puja to Chhath Puja

Holidays in West Bengal will be from October 20 to 23, which include Kali Puja, Diwali and Bhai Dooj. Schools here will open on 24th October. At the same time, students in Bihar will get big benefits. Along with Diwali, Chhath Puja is also falling during this period, hence schools will remain closed till 29 October 2025 and will open from 30 October.

Karnataka: Two-day festival break

Schools in Karnataka will remain closed on 20 and 22 October. These holidays are given on the occasion of Narak Chaturdashi and Balipadyami festival. Schools here will open from 23rd October.

Students and parents of all states should keep in mind that they should check the exact date by visiting the website of their local schools or education board, because the calendar of some institutions may be different. The purpose of these holidays is that students can celebrate Diwali and other festivals related to it with their families.
