Diwali 2025: Diwali is just around the corner, and there is only one question revolving around every house: “When to buy Lakshmi and Ganesha idols?” On Dhanteras or on the morning of Diwali? Let us know about that auspicious moment which can change your luck…
Lakshmi Ganesh Murti: As Diwali approaches, the market is clearly visible. This year Diwali is on 20th October, while Dhanteras is on 18th October. But the question arises that which day is considered auspicious for buying idols of Ganesha and Lakshmi. Should these be bought on Dhanteras or Diwali? If you are thinking this, then know one important thing.
On which day should the idol of God be bought?
According to religious texts and traditions, the time from Dhanteras to the new moon day of Diwali is considered auspicious. According to astrologer Anand Sagar Pathak, buying a new idol on Dhanteras is considered auspicious. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi was born from the churning of the ocean. Therefore it is considered the beginning of prosperity. Therefore it is considered best to buy an idol on Dhanteras and worship it till the evening of Diwali. By doing this, wealth and prosperity comes to the house and Goddess Lakshmi always resides there.
Additionally, astrologers recommend purchasing Ganesha and Lakshmi idols in the evening on Dhanteras, when Venus and Jupiter are rising. This time is considered auspicious. So, if you are not able to buy Ganesha and Lakshmi idols on Dhanteras, you can buy them on the morning of Chaturdashi or Diwali. This time is considered auspicious, but buying idols after midnight on Amavasya day is considered inauspicious. Therefore, avoid buying idols these days.
Which idols should you buy on Diwali?
- Idols made of clay and metal are considered auspicious.
- Avoid plaster of paris or plastic idols.
- Idols with calm and happy faces should be purchased.
- The idols of Lakshmi should be kept facing east or north.
- Keeping Lord Ganesha’s face in the south direction is considered auspicious.
