Disney signs multi-year Formula E deal to stream races across 144 territories

Disney, which is quite popular around the world for delivering streaming services, has acquired a multi-year agreement to stream Formula E races globally on Disney+ across 144 territories.

This agreement will expand the entertainment giant’s presence in live sports. In the US, the races will also be available on ESPN and ESPN+.

The deal comes as live sports continue to play an increasingly important role for streaming platforms. Regular sporting events help attract younger audiences, which subsequently increases the chance of increasing the subscriber base.

The upcoming Formula E 2026-27 season will feature 21 rounds across 13 events, with races scheduled in cities including Jeddah, Austin, Miami, Monaco, and Mexico City. The season will commence in Jeddah on December 18 and will culminate on July 25 in Tokyo.

Formula E is an addition to an already impressive sporting portfolio of Disney, which showcases select La Liga matches, NBA games and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Formula E, majority-owned by Liberty Global, is also preparing to introduce its next-generation electric racing car, GEN4. The league describes it as “the debut of the fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car ever built.”
The financial details of Disney’s agreement with Formula E have not been disclosed.

Formula E will continue to maintain its existing broadcast television partnerships alongside the new Disney deal. In the US, the championship was previously associated with CBS Sports, with races available across CBS, Paramount+ and The Roku Channel.

The agreement marks another push by Disney into live sports streaming as media companies increasingly use major sporting properties to attract and retain subscribers.
