Diogo Moreira to learn Honda factory MotoGP fate at Silverstone

Diogo Moreira’s remarkable  rookie campaign has ignited speculation over a potential move to the factory Honda team, with the Brazilian revealing that a decision on his future could be made by the time the   heads to Silverstone for the  . Moreira, fresh from a storming ride from 18th on the grid to 11th at the German  despite serving a penalty, has rapidly emerged as a serious contender for the coveted HRC seat alongside Fabio Quartararo for the 2027 season.

With Honda yet to announce its complete factory line-up for the new 850cc/Pirelli era, all eyes are on the reigning Moto2 champion. David Alonso had initially been tipped as Quartararo’s likely teammate, but Moreira’s impressive consistency and adaptability in his debut   season have dramatically increased his stock within the paddock. The Brazilian’s current multi-year contract with Honda further cements his position as a frontrunner for promotion.

Speaking after his Sachsenring heroics, Moreira addressed the mounting speculation, stating, “I don’t know!” when pressed about his future team. He added, “For sure, we will talk during this summer break, so in the end let’s see in Silverstone. I think there will be something 100%.” The anticipation is building as the   grid awaits confirmation of Honda’s strategic direction.

Moreira’s statistics bolster his case for factory status: he has scored points in nine out of the first eleven races, with a season-best result of sixth place in Hungary. Reflecting on his rapid progress, he admitted, “I think we are surprised, all the team. Because this is just race eleven, so we are already there. I think we are in a good way. We need to keep working until the end.”

His gritty performance at Sachsenring was not without its challenges. The new  grid layout, featuring increased spacing between riders and rows, complicated his trademark lightning starts and forced him into a more measured approach. “In the past I was able to make good starts and magic in the first laps, but today we saw with this new grid it is super-difficult to make a start like that,” Moreira explained. “I was trying to be calm the first laps and I was able to catch the group in the end. When I saw the pitboard and there were 22 laps to go I said, ‘Woah, it will be a super-long race.’ I was trying to focus every lap, not make mistakes and I think we managed the race well. Starting from the back it is super-difficult to overtake here and I overheated the tyre, so in the end we survived well. I passed Miller in the last laps, but this weekend was difficult for Honda in general. We survived, and also Marini made a good race today.”

As the Silly Season drama intensifies, Luca Marini, currently Honda’s highest-ranked rider in the   after finishing tenth at Sachsenring, is tipped for a move to Tech3 KTM. Meanwhile, Joan Mir endured a tough weekend, crashing out and already confirmed for Gresini Ducati next year.

The   paddock now turns its focus to the crucial Silverstone round, where Moreira’s future-and the shape of Honda’s factory project-may finally be revealed.
