One of the most promising footballers in the world at the moment, Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota died shockingly after he and his brother was involved in a car crash in Spain.

This has sen shockwaves across the footballing world, as a footballer in the prime of his career was killed in the same year that he won the Premier League with Liverpool and the UEFA Nations League with Portugal. He made his last Instagram post just hours before his death, and the one line message is bound to break fans’ hearts.

Diogo Jota got married to Rute Cardoso on June 22, just 10 days before he lost his life in the car crash. In his last post on Instagram, Jota shared a video of his wedding. He captioned the post, “A day we will never forget.”

 

 

 

 

How Did Diogo Jota Die?

According to a report by Spanish daily Marca, the incident occurred at the city of Zamora, northwestern Spain.

Jota’s 26-year-old brother Andre Silva, who died in the crash was also a professional footballer. He played for Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel.

“Two young people die in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria). The Rionegro del Puente Fire Station (Northern Zone of the @DiputacionZA Consortium) responds,” Zamora’s Provincial Council said in a statement.

“The vehicle caught fire, and the flames spread to the vegetation. They were 28 and 26 years old. RIP,” the statement further added.

Diogo Jota was born in the Portuguese city of Porto, and began his professional football career with the youth setup of Paços de Ferreira. He moved to Atletico Madrid in 2016. His move to English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017 is what changed his career. His consistent performances for this side earned him a 45 million pound move to Liverpool in 2020. He won two Premier League titles with Liverpool.
