Will BJP MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia win the Digha Assembly elections 2025 for the third consecutive time or will the JDU-CPI(ML) alliance give him competition? Whose fortunes will shine due to women voters and caste equations?
Digha Assembly Election 2025: Digha Vidhan Sabha Seat of Patna district came into existence after delimitation in 2008 and since then this seat is considered very important politically. Once again the contest in Digha Assembly Election 2025 is going to be interesting. The history here shows that there is a direct conflict between JDU and BJP, while CPI(ML) and RJD are also busy in wooing the voters.
What is caste equation?
Yadav, Rajput, Bhumihar, Brahmin, Koeri and Kurmi communities have significant influence on this seat. The special thing is that here women voters also play a decisive role in deciding the result. This is the reason why all the elections held from 2010 to 2020 have revolved around caste equation and women votes.
2010 elections: JDU’s first victory
For the first time in 2010, elections were held on Digha seat. In this, JDU’s Poonam Devi registered a spectacular victory. He got a total of 81,247 votes. Whereas, LJP’s Satya Narayan Sharma got only 20,785 votes. This victory gave JDU an initial lead and JDU’s dominance was visible here.
2015 elections: rise of BJP
The picture changed completely in 2015. This time BJP snatched this seat from JDU. Sanjay Chaurasia (BJP) won by securing 92,671 votes, while JDU’s Rajiv Ranjan Prasad got 67,892 votes. The victory margin was 24,779 votes.
In this election, men voted 44.2% and women 39.3%, which is considered to be the highest voting percentage in Digha seat.
2020 elections: BJP’s second consecutive victory
Even in 2020, BJP maintained its hold. Sanjay Chaurasia (BJP) won this time by getting 97,318 votes. CPI(ML)’s Shashi Yadav got 51,084 votes and stood second.
This was the second consecutive time that BJP won this seat and proved its dominance.
Note: BJP candidate Sanjay Chaurasia has a doctorate degree but three criminal cases are also registered against him. His total movable and immovable assets are said to be Rs 7.73 crore. There is no liability on them.
Digha Assembly 2025: Will BJP score a hat-trick?
Now the question is whether BJP will be able to register victory for the third consecutive time in Digha Assembly Election 2025 or will parties like JDU and CPI(ML) create a new equation. The role of women voters and caste balance can turn the tide of this election. Due to it being an urban area, BJP has always got the advantage here, but this time the opposition is also entering the field with a strategy.
