AIIMS doctors have alerted diabetic patients in this winter season. The risks of increasing sugar level in winter and what precautions need to be taken have been explained. In this season, physical activity reduces and eating habits change. It can increase the blood sugar level suddenly, which is dangerous.
Dr. Rajesh Khadgawat, Professor in the Department of Endocrinology at AIIMS Told that sugar level usually increases during winter season. This happens due to change in eating pattern and not exercising due to cold. But special caution should be taken in this season. But diabetes It is important for patients to check fasting and post-meal sugar levels at least 23 times a week. Patients are also advised to do some exercise while staying indoors. Stretching, yoga or light strength training at home is also beneficial. It helps in controlling sugar level.
avoid eating too much sweets
Dr. Rajesh says that there may be a craving to eat sweets in winter, but diabetic patients should avoid sweets. Eating sweets can suddenly increase the sugar level. Which is not good for health. Along with sweets, avoid fast food and fried foods and include more proteins and vitamins in your diet. Try not to eat any food that increases sugar suddenly.
Do not drink less water due to fear of cold.
Dr. Rajesh says that people drink less water in cold weather, but the body needs it. In such a situation, try to drink at least 78 glasses of lukewarm water even in winter. Do not think that if you are not feeling thirsty then do not drink water. If you don’t want to drink much water, you can keep your body hydrated with green tea and other things.
Do not make changes to medicines yourself
Many patients reduce or stop medicines during cold, which can be dangerous. Do not change your medicine or dosage openly. First get the test done and change the dosage accordingly after consulting the doctor. Because increasing or decreasing the dose of medicine yourself can spoil your health.
