Dia Mirza slams Revanth Reddy for claiming she posted fake, AI-generated videos of Gachibowli tree-felling; calls his statement ‘absolutely false’

Actor Dia Mirza has hit back at recent allegations suggesting she used AI-generated images and videos to support a student-led protest against deforestation at Kancha Gachibowli in Hyderabad.

The controversy emerged after Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy claimed that visuals shared by the actor and environmentalist were artificially generated.

On Sunday, Dia took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the accusations directly, urging the Telangana Chief Minister and his administration to fact-check before making such statements.

“The CM of Telangana posted a tweet yesterday. He made certain claims about the situation at Kancha Gachibowli. One of them was that I had used FAKE AI generated images/videos in support of the protest by students to protect biodiversity on the 400acres of land the government wanted to auction. This is an absolutely false statement. I have not posted a single image or video that is AI generated. The media and the Telangana government should verify their facts before making such claims,” Dia said in a tweet.

Several students from the University of Hyderabad are protesting the Telangana state government’s plans to develop a 400-acre parcel of land adjacent to the university. The government’s proposal to auction this ecologically sensitive area for urban infrastructure and an IT park has sparked strong opposition, particularly from the UoH Students’ Union.

The issue is currently under consideration in both the Telangana High Court and the Supreme Court. Since the plan was made public, many celebrities have voiced their concern, particularly over the potential tree felling involved in the project.

What is the Telangana government’s stance?

According to The Times of India, CM Reddy recently instructed state officials to file an appeal in court, calling for an investigation into AI-generated content that allegedly misrepresented the situation. These digitally altered visuals, showing peacocks and deer in the disputed Kancha Gachibowli area, were said to have misled the public.

In a review meeting held with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and D Anasuya (Seethakka), Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, and DGP Jitender, the Chief Minister sought clarity on how the issue had escalated into a public controversy.

Officials explained that numerous celebrities had reacted to the misleading AI-generated videos, amplifying the matter on social media and giving it national attention. In response, CM Revanth Reddy directed officials to bolster the state’s cyber crime department to better address such challenges in the future.
