Dia Mirza Extends Support To Fawad Khan For His Bollywood Comeback Amid Abir Gulaal Controversy; Says ‘Will Be Watching.’

Fawad Khan is all set to return to Bollywood with the romantic comedy movie Abir Gulaal, co-starring Vaani Kapoor. Since its announcement, the film has come across several controversies related to Khan’s comeback.

People criticised the Pakistani actor’s return to India despite the ban on artists from that country. Amid all the buzz around the film, Dia Mirza extended her support to Fawad and other collaborations of Pakistani artists in India. She also stated that she is looking forward to watching the film soon.

In an interview with News18, Dia Mirza said “It is a political question. If the circumstances to seek a ban on artists were completely…I’ve always believed that art is and should always be the medium of peace and harmony. We should never, ever allow art and sport to be tangled or mixed with hate. It’s just good that Fawad is back in the film, you know that we will be watching soon. I hope this leads to many more such opportunities for other collaborations.”

Fawad Khan appeared in three popular Bollywood films, which also performed well at the box office, including Khoobsurat (2014), Kapoor & Sons (2016) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). After these movies, he made a strong fan base in India as well. However, after the 2016 URI attack, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) made the resolution of not working with Pakistani artists.

His comeback movie Abir Gulaal also faced opposition from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which stated that impose a ban on any project that features Pakistani artists in the state. Talking about the movie, Abir Gulaal is a story of two heartbroken people, who are brought together by chance and find solace in each other’s company. The film features Fawad Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Lisa Haydon, Farida Jalal, Ridhi Dogra and Rahul Vohra in key roles.
