Dia Mirza has come a long way since her early days in Bollywood, and with experience has come a shift in perspective. As the actress gears up for the release of Operation Safed Sagar , she candidly looks back at the decisions she made when she first entered the industry.
In a recent interview, Dia admitted there was a time when she judged opportunities differently, a mindset she believes cost her some memorable projects. Today, however, she approaches roles with a completely different outlook, placing greater importance on a character’s emotional impact and contribution to the story than its screen time.
Dia Mirza opens up about rejecting good films
Dia Mirza has reflected on one of the biggest lessons she learned in the early years of her acting career, admitting that she once turned down promising projects because the roles weren’t substantial enough.
Speaking exclusively to News18, the actor revealed that her perspective has changed completely over the years and that she no longer judges a role by its screen time.
Looking back at the first few years of her career, confessed, “In the first five years of my career, I was young and stupid and I was trying to figure my own head out. I may have said no to some really great work because the role wasn’t long enough. But I’ve never done that in the last 20 years of my career.”
Explaining what guides her choices today, Dia said a role should never be judged by its length but by the truth and emotional resonance it carries. “Evaluating whether you want to make time and be a part of a story should never be determined by the length of the part,” she said, adding that the story and character are what truly matter.
The actor further emphasised that screen time no longer influences her decisions. “Length and screen-time really don’t matter. What matters is how my character anchors the story,” Dia said, explaining that she now looks for characters that add grounding and depth to the narrative.
