Dhurandhar 2 controversy EXPLAINED: Why BMC wants to ban Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios?

Dhurandhar 2 BMC controversy explained: Weeks before its theatrical release, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has landed in serious controversy. The much-anticipated sequel to last year’s blockbuster has reportedly angered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The department is now seeking a permanent ban on director Aditya Dhar’s production banner, B62 Studios.

The spy thriller, headlined by Ranveer Singh, is slated to hit cinemas on March 19. Titled Dhurandhar 2, the film continues the story of Indian spy Hamza, following the dramatic events of the first instalment, which shattered global box office records after its December 5 release and became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time. However, excitement around the sequel has now been overshadowed by civic trouble.

Why does BMC want to permanently blacklist Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios?

According to reports, the BMC has accused B62 Studios of repeatedly violating rules during a recent shoot in South Mumbai. Officials claim the production filmed scenes on a building terrace and used two generator vans without proper permissions.

In a letter sent to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) of Zone 1, the civic body recommended a penalty of Rs 1 lakh and demanded that B62 Studios be permanently blacklisted from applying for future shooting permissions. The Rs 25,000 security deposit submitted by the applicant has also been forfeited. Additionally, two other applicants have reportedly been barred from submitting applications through the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation Limited portal.

Speaking to The Indian Express, a BMC official stated, “Having received the clearances, the three applicants – Komal Pokhriyal, Nasir Khan and B62 production house – can no longer apply for shoot permissions with the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development CL website. On Tuesday, we will also be issuing notices to these three applicants informing of the action, and a copy of the notice will also be shared with the Maharashtra film cell and BMC’s Business Cell head.”

Dhurandhar 2 controversy deepens

The controversy deepened over alleged violations involving fire elements. The team had received permission to shoot on February 7 and 8 in the Fort area. However, authorities claim the production used flammable materials despite a clear ban on crackers and similar items. Following complaints around 12.45 AM on February 14, officials reportedly reached the spot within 15 minutes and seized five lit torches.

The production unit allegedly assured officials that fire visuals would be recreated using VFX. Yet the BMC has now demanded formal registration of the seized items and strict action, citing concerns about public safety.
