According to mythology, one day in ancient times, Lord Shiva thought of making Kashi his residence. At that time, King Divodas was ruling Kashi. He was a very religious king. He was a very kind and religious king. Lord Brahma had given a boon to the king that as long as nothing wrong happens in his kingdom, there will be no shortage in the kingdom. No god will be able to enter there.
However, Lord Shiva liked the place. He sent his son Lord Ganesha to Kashi, so that he could know Kashi better. Before going to Kashi, Lord Ganesha took the form of an astrologer and named himself Dhundhi. Within a short time, the people of Kashi became greatly impressed by his intelligence. Due to this, Ganesh ji became the center of discussion in Kashi. Here the rule of King Divodas started declining. In such a situation, Lord Shiva came to Kashi.
He called Lord Ganesha by the name Dhundhiraj. Also said that the journey of the devotees coming to Kashi will be considered complete only after worshiping Dhundhiraj Ganesha. It is said that the day when Lord Shiva called Lord Ganesha by the name Dhundhiraj was on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month. Therefore this day started being celebrated as Dhundhiraj Chaturthi.
