After this the demons defeated the gods and gained victory over them. Due to this, darkness had spread throughout the universe. Seeing the increasing atrocities of the demons, all the gods took refuge in Lord Vishnu, the protector of the world.

Churning of the ocean took place on the advice of Lord Vishnu

The gods appealed to Lord Vishnu for help. After this, Lord Vishnu advised the gods to churn the cosmic ocean to obtain the nectar of immortality. Following the advice of Lord Vishnu, there was a competition between the demons and the gods to drink the nectar. Mandar mountain became the churning stick and Vasuki the serpent became the rope. Lord Vishnu in the form of a tortoise carried the Mandar mountain on his back.

Divine treasures obtained from churning of ocean

After this the churning of the ocean started. From the churning of the ocean, the most deadly poison Halahal came out, which Lord Shiva absorbed in his ear and saved the entire creation from destruction.
