Why did Parashuram’s father get angry

Lord Parshuram is considered a symbol of might. He was an ardent devotee of his parents. His mother Renuka was extremely sacred, virtuous and Tejaswini. One day she went to fill water from the river, when she saw a king and queen in love, which caused a feeling in her mind for a moment. Rishi Jamadagni came to know about this, because he was ascetic and trikalna. He considered this “mental deviation” to be a sin and ordered his sons to cut off their mother’s head.

Parashuram’s father was pleased with his son

The first four sons (Vyasu, Vishwasu, Shutasana and Vasu) refused, then the sage cursed them. Parashurama obeyed his father and cut his mother’s head. Rishi Jamadagni was pleased with his son Parashurama and said that the groom should ask. Then Parashurama had said- ‘Give me the bride to revive my mother and return my brothers to their old form.’ The sage gave this boon and Renuka Mata became alive again.

Although Parashuram ji had obeyed his father’s orders, but he was extremely repent of the crime of cutting his mother’s throat. It is believed that Lord Parashurama did severe penance by visiting the “Mahadev Temple” or “Pashupatinath Temple” (Pashupatinath of Nepal) in Nepal in North India. In addition, “Parashuram Kund” and “Parashurama Tapasthal” are present at many places in India, where they went to atonement, such as: Parashuram Kund (Arunachal Pradesh), Janpav (Madhya Pradesh) and Renuka Tirtha (Himachal Pradesh).
