While their high-profile dating and eventual marriage created a lot of chatter, their romance became a benchmark. However, their relationship did not last long, as within the next two years, the actors parted ways, leaving fans heartbroken. While the actual reason behind their separation was never known, Joong-Ki’s acquaintance has revealed the reality behind their viral divorce.

Viral post claiming reason behind divorce

A recent Threads post is going viral for unravelling the truth. It claimed that the alleged reason for actors Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo’s divorce in 2019 wasn’t anything fans have speculated.

The post originated from the account @raphaelhhc, who claimed to be somebody known to Song Joong-Ki. It read:
“My mom and Song Joong Ki’s dad are buddies. My mom went to Song Joong Ki’s first wedding, although she didn’t take photos because no phones were allowed. She said one of the reasons why they divorced was that his dad thought Song Hye Kyo wasn’t obedient enough. Song Hye Kyo was someone who preferred freedom, while Song Joong Ki really listened to his dad, so there were a lot of conflicts between them, leading to their divorce.”

Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo reportedly met through actor Jo In Sung in 2013. They later teamed up for their 2016 K-drama, Descendants of the Sun. While Joong-Ki played Captain Yoo Shi-Jin, an elite soldier in the Republic of Korea Army, Song Hye-Kyo played Kang Mo-Yeon, a cardiothoracic surgeon who exemplifies both humanitarianism and medical ethics.

They both the actors initially denied a relationship, they later confirmed it in 2017. Fans started calling them the “Song-Song couple.”
