STUTTGART, Germany (AP) – Deniz Undav intensified his bid for a spot on Germany’s World Cup roster after scoring the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory over Ghana on Monday.
His performance came as a reinforcement of his impressive club form.
After a hiatus from the national team since June, Undav’s return was marked by seven goals in his last six Bundesliga matches, earning him a call-up. The friendly, held at the Stuttgart stadium, saw fans vocally support Undav long before he entered the match.

The match appeared destined for a draw until Undav flicked the ball over Ghana’s goalkeeper in the 88th minute, securing Germany’s seventh consecutive win. Earlier, Ghana’s Abdul Fatuwu equalized after Kai Havertz had put Germany ahead with a penalty just before halftime.
Ghana leveled the score in the 70th minute when Germany-born Derrick Köhn outpaced defender Josha Vagnoman and delivered a low cross for Fatawu to score. The match took place under persistent rain, which contributed to a less dynamic display than expected, especially following Germany’s thrilling 4-3 win against Switzerland.

Nick Woltemade, one of four changes in the German lineup, notably impacted the game with a header that struck the bar in the second half. Germany’s initial lead came from Havertz’s penalty, awarded after Jonas Adjetey handled the ball in the box.
Unfortunately for Ghana, defender Kojo Peprah Oppong had to leave the field due to a left leg injury sustained during a challenge with Woltemade, adding to the team’s struggles in the match.
