Delhi weather alert: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms lashed most parts of Delhi today, 29 July 2025, bringing respite from a hot and humid weather that was prevailing in the national capital for the past few days.
The IMD issued a weather alert for Delhi in response to the heavy rainfall forecast.

IMD issues RED alert in Delhi
Amid the Delhi weather alert, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the national capital till noon today.
The IMD said that Delhi recorded 8 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday.
“Intense to very intense spells of rain very likely to continue over many parts of Delhi & NCR during next 1-2 Hrs,” the IMD said in an update at 9 am.
It issued a red alert in southeast and northeast NCR, and a ‘yellow’ alert in southwest and southeast parts of NCR.
The weather department further predicted winds gusting to 30-40 km/hr.
The rains caused heavy waterlogging in some parts of Delhi. Visuals from Kamala Nagar market showed vehicles submerged in the rainwater.

IMD suggests action over Delhi rains
The IMD predicted localised flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses due to the rainfall. It also warned of disruption of traffic in some areas due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
Therefore, the weather department issued a series of action that should be taken due to the heavy rainfall in Delhi, like “follow traffic advisories, stay indoors, close windows and doors, avoid travel if possible, take safe shelters; do not take shelter under trees, do not touch electric open wires and avoid standing near electric poles, immediately get out of water bodies, and keep away from all the objects that conduct electricity.”
The IMD has forecast a cloudy sky with moderate rain, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 30 degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity was recorded at 70 per cent at 8:30 am.
The air quality was recorded in the satisfactory category at 9 am, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 87, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.
Air India issues advisory
Meanwhile, Air India has issued a travel advisory warning passengers of potential disruptions to flight operations to and from Delhi on Tuesday morning due to gusty winds and rain. The airline urged travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport and to allow extra time for their journey.
“Gusty wind and rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi this morning. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport and allow extra time for your journey,” Air India posted on X.
