Delhi Drinking Water Contaminated: After Indore, the cleanest city of the country, the condition of drinking water in the capital Delhi is now taking a serious turn. After the water was found dirty in Indore, now the same problem is visible in the capital also. In areas like Prem Nagar, Nabi Karim, Patel Nagar and Sadar Bazaar, old and dilapidated pipelines are leaking sewage into drinking water. Stinky and contaminated water has affected the daily lives of people. Every household has to rely on bottled water, adding additional burden to low-income families.

Local people allege that many pipelines are 48-50 years old. Due to leakage at many places, sewage water is directly mixing with drinking water. Areas with narrow streets, like Prem Nagar, are the worst affected. Due to this leakage the water has become completely contaminated and the local people are forced to drink it.

Impact of dirty water on health
Residents reported that problems like stomach diseases, diarrhea, vomiting and fever are increasing. RO purifiers are also breaking down again and again because the water is very dirty. Those who cannot afford bottled water or purifiers have very limited options.

Where is the accountability of the Municipal Corporation and agencies?
Kuljeet Singh Chahal, vice-chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council, says the water is tested regularly and conforms to safety standards. But local people allege that despite complaints, no permanent solution was found. Many families come together to get the pipelines cleaned, but the problem returns within a few days.
