Security preparations for the BRICS Summit 2026 have entered their final phase, with Delhi Traffic Police conducting a full-scale motorcade rehearsal on Thursday, September 3. The exercise will bring traffic diversions and regulated movement across several parts of the capital between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
The summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, from September 11 to 13, where leaders and delegates from BRICS nations will participate under heightened security.
Why Is The Rehearsal Being Held?
According to Delhi Traffic Police, the rehearsal is designed to test VVIP movement routes, traffic diversion plans and coordination among multiple security agencies before the arrival of foreign dignitaries.
Motorcades will travel from 12 designated locations to Bharat Mandapam in the morning, followed by a return rehearsal later in the day, creating 22 diversion points across Delhi.
Officials said the exercise aims to ensure smooth security arrangements while keeping disruption to commuters as low as possible.
Over 35 Major Roads To Be Affected
Traffic movement is expected to slow down on several important roads in Central and South Delhi, including:

The advisory warns commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on these routes during the rehearsal hours.
Traffic diversions will be implemented at several major intersections, including:

Alternative routes have also been designated for vehicles travelling towards Connaught Place, India Gate, Lodhi Road, IGI Airport and Pragati Maidan.
Authorities have urged residents to:
* Use the Delhi Metro wherever possible.
* Start journeys early and expect delays in Central Delhi.
* Follow diversion signs and directions from traffic personnel.
* Keep extra travel time for airport, railway station and office commutes.
Emergency and essential-service vehicles will receive priority passage during the rehearsal.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Zone-II) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said the traffic police is working in continuous coordination with security agencies and the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure both security and traffic management remain seamless during the BRICS Summit.
