Delhi Weather Today: Continuous heavy rainfall has battered Delhi and neighbouring NCR cities, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, since Friday morning, causing widespread waterlogging and massive traffic congestion across the region.
This intense downpour follows two to three days of intermittent showers, which initially brought relief from the heat and humidity before quickly leading to major disruptions.
In response to the deteriorating weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi. The weather office has forecast moderate rain at many places and heavy rain at isolated places accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next few hours.
NDMA Issues Warning For Next 3 Hours
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), IMD New Delhi has issued a heavy rain alert for Central, East, New Delhi, North, Northeast, Northwest, Shahdara, South, Southeast, Southwest, and West Delhi. This alert will be in place for the next three hours from 5:56 PM to 8:56 PM.
Residents have been advised to limit outdoor activities and remain alert with official weather updates.
Traffic Congestion Reported On Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Delhi-Jaipur Highway, And Key Routes
According to news agency PTI, heavy traffic was reported on several key routes, including the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, ITO, Wazirabad Road, Patel Road, Rohtak Road, Shankar Road, Peeragarhi, Shaheen Bagh, the Kirti Nagar stretch, and the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. Commuters in East Delhi faced similar traffic snarls, especially on GT Road, near GTB Enclave, and around Dilshad Garden.
Waterlogging Reported In THESE Areas
Residents took to social media to report waterlogging in several areas, including Dakshinpuri, Okhla, Sangam Vihar, Sainik Farms, and several stretches of the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.
Delhi Weather Forecast For Next Three Days
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue over the national capital until August 10.
August 7 (Today): Orange Alert in place. Generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain at many places, along with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations during the afternoon to night.
August 8 (Saturday): Yellow Alert in place. Generally cloudy skies with light to very light rain at many areas and moderate rain at isolated places from early morning through the afternoon. Another spell of light to very light rain is expected during the evening and night.
August 9 (Sunday): No Alert in place. Possibility of very light rain from early morning leading into the forenoon, followed by another spell of light to very light rain towards the evening.
August 10 (Monday): No Alert in place. Possibility of one or two spells of very light rain towards the afternoon or evening.
