Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) says that it has once again proved that it believes in the politics of action and not just of promises. Railway reservation counter in JNU campus is now going to be reopened due to the efforts of ABVP, which was being demanded for a long time. This is a historic achievement for thousands of students of the university.
Last month, a high level delegation of ABVP met the Railway Minister and submitted a memorandum on this subject. In which it was told that JNU students, especially those coming from remote areas, are continuously facing difficulties in booking railway tickets. Due to technical and economic constraints in online or agent based systems, there was a great need for an on-campus reservation facility for students. The Railway Ministry took this initiative with a positive attitude and after coordination with the university administration, it has now been decided that the Railway Reservation Counter will be reopened in JNU.
Result of ABVP commitment
This is not just the restoration of a service, but a direct result of the students’ struggles and the organization’s continued commitment. ABVP worked continuously on this issue, maintained dialogue with ministries and took it forward with administrative activism at every level, which is an example of the organization’s accountable leadership and result-oriented politics. ABVP has also seen this achievement in the broader perspective of JNU student politics. The organization believes that the aim of student politics should not be just ideology, but to bring real change in the lives of students through practical reforms. It is in this spirit that ABVP gave a new direction to its campaign in this year’s student union elections.
‘Our aim is to solve the problems of students’
ABVP presidential candidate Vikas Patel said that the time has come to turn JNU politics towards real development. Our aim is to solve the problems of the students and transform the university into a culture of communication, convenience and respect. The re-opening of the railway counter is a testimony to ABVP’s promise that we do not just speak, we act. This time we are getting strong support from the students in JNU and we are moving towards victory on all four seats.
ABVP vice president candidate said this
Whereas ABVP vice-presidential candidate Tanya Kumari says, ‘It is time that the discussion about JNU should no longer be about Palestine or America, but around the students of JNU and their rights. Issues like women safety, health counselling, mental health support, extension of library timings and cleanliness are on our primary agenda. The opening of the Railway Reservation Counter in JNU is a result of ABVP’s student-centric politics and its commitment towards student interests.
He said, ‘Our politics is based on the warmth of nationalism and decency of dialogue. We have brought politics of thoughtful solutions, not ideological conflict. Due to these achievements and continuous ground work, ABVP is getting tremendous support from the students in JNU. The student community in the entire campus is impressed by the work of ABVP and is openly supporting it. It is clear from the campus atmosphere that this time ABVP is going to win the JNUSU elections with full majority and the victory of ABVP candidates on all four seats is considered almost certain.
True leadership is the one who reaches the government by becoming the voice of the students.
This confidence among students is built not just through slogans but through actions. Over the years, ABVP has consistently worked on issues such as bus facilities, expansion of health services, transparency in scholarships, and accountability in university administration. The opening of the Railway Reservation Counter is a symbol of the fact that ABVP’s politics is focused on construction, not opposition. This moment in the history of JNU is also special because it shows that when student politics is done with service and dedication, results are certain. ABVP has proved that the true leadership is the one who reaches out to the government as the voice of the students and returns with solutions.
