Delhi-NCR witnesses light rains, thunderstorms; More showers likely

New Delhi: Light rains and thunderstorms hit Delhi-NCR on Sunday morning, bringing some relief from the unusual March heat that the national capital and surrounding areas of Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram have been witnessing this year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had in fact already predicted rains for the city in its Saturday forecast.

Dip in temperatures started Saturday: IMD

According to the IMD’s prediction on Saturday, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hailstorms would likely hit the western Himalayas and the adjoining planes on Sunday and Monday. The predictions came true and Delhi-NCR witnessed rain early morning on Sunday.

In fact the temperatures had already started coming down over the weekend and the city was witnessing overcast skies and windy weather. A yellow alert had also been issued for Sunday, by the weather department.
